Constructed
by the Saints, it was called the New Prospect Church,
Brother Simeon Cochran, better known as ‘Uncle Sim’, was elected as
Pastor.
During this period the World Church was undergoing persecution and the Vancleave Branch did not escape. In 1915, the building the Saints had constructed was destroyed by fire. For 4 years the Saints were without a church building. Bro. Robert (Bob) McMillan opened his home to the Saints during that period. The Saints had enough faith in their work that they were not frustrated by man. Services were held in another school building in the Evergreen Community. The Saints eventually bought the school and one acre of land, with the help of Joe Ware, John Rogers, and Robert Cochran, who were on the School Board of Trustees. Two acres of land were donated by some non-member friends, one acre by J. J. Campaingn and one acre by Jim Van Horn and Roland Ware, which was later made into our cemetery. Mrs Julia Adelaide Cochran, who died June 25, 1924, was the first person to be buried in the cemetery. |
